This morning the College of Policing published its annual figures on the policing barred list, which shows that nearly 600 officers were dismissed in 12 months – an increase of 50 per cent on the previous period.

The story has been picked up by The Times, Sky, Daily Mail, Independent, BBC Radio, Daily Mirror and others, and received widespread regional coverage.         

Chief Superintendent Andy Walker, head of uniformed policing at the College of Policing, will also be appearing on LBC later this morning to discuss the report.

BBC reports that a Lords inquiry has found that shoplifting has risen to unacceptable levels. The problem is so urgent police forces need to take "immediate action", according to the House of Lords Justice and Home Affairs Committee.
