College of Policing response to HM Chief Inspector of Constabulary Andy Cooke’s State of Policing 2022 annual assessment

EMBARGOED UNTIL 00:01 FRIDAY 9 JUNE 2023

Andy Marsh, CEO of College of Policing, said:

“The report illustrates the need for policing to produce action not words. Public trust has been eroded, and it can only be re-established by a service which focusses on catching criminals and fighting crime.

“Rebuilding this trust will only happen by maintaining strong ethics, better results, and holding ourselves accountable to the highest standards.

“Excellent leadership at all levels of the service is critically important. The College of Policing’s work to overhaul leadership will be the solution to many of the points raised in this report. By standardising training and development at every rank, we can support professionalism, drive performance, and set the right culture across policing.”
