About us

The College of Policing is the professional body for the police in England and Wales.

We do three things:

1. We set the standards police should meet in areas including major investigations, firearms, public protection, stop and search, counter terrorism, undercover, policing elections, public order and more.
For a full list, visit our Authorised Professional Practice website which is the official source of professional guidance on policing.

2. We build an evidence base into ‘what works’ to reduce crime in areas including knife crime, domestic violence, prisons, electronic tagging, drink-driving, CCTV and more.
You can see the research on our Crime Reduction Toolkit.

3. We professionally develop officers and police staff so they can stay up to date with the best training, skills and expertise.
